No exceptions! Warm Regards Caroline Chang THE HISTORY... Why "FREE RIDES"? Previously as applied to our Lexus hybrid vehicle... Since the NSW Government wouldn't allow us to operate our Lexus hybrid vehicle as a paid service we thought... what the heck - and we looked after people for free! Between Wednesday the 21st November 2007 and April 2008 (when we finally regained our approval), the Ecotaxi Lexus was out and about on the roads in the CBD of Sydney driving people for free! Yes totally for free! The media generated undoubtedly assisted in our gaining approval for the vehicle to be operated on a commercial basis. Today we still get asked - "Is this a free ride?" Unfortunately we have to say no BUT if you have a worthwhile cause that might benefit from a free ride please let us know! (Please note that we do not engage in sponsorships unless for a charitable cause that we feel we can cater for) Russell, our Managing Director, upon founding Ecotaxi Pty Ltd (formerly Omnicabs Pty Ltd) realised that we were in a business that leaves a considerable carbon footprint. Russell is certainly not what one might call a "Greenie". Just another person, running a business, thinking there might be a way to do so in a more considerate and environmentally friendly way than first envisaged. We canvassed the Ministry Of Transport NSW on whether the Lexus RX400h (Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV)) would be considered as suitable for the hire car industry. We were told it would be accepted. Ten (10) such vehicles were promptly ordered. Acquisition of the first such vehicle went ahead. We were the first environmentally friendly Limousine service in Australia! In Sydney we were over a year ahead of our competition! We remain the only prestige hybrid service in both Sydney and Melbourne. Unfortunately change within this industry met with stiff opposition. We were told (retrospectively) after operating for several weeks that our use of our new SULEV Hybrid Lexus was now restricted and not suitable for use as a hire car. We offer the very highest standard of driving - our drivers all undergo intensive training and come with the following experience: Advanced (police) driving (UK & Australia) Former long-serving chauffeurs to CEOs Driving Instructor (Australia) Defensive driving courses Silver Service (Taxis) drivers We ran a "FREE RIDES" campaign (completely free transport in our SULEV Lexus Hybrid RX400h from Sydney CBD to Sydney CBD) to raise public awareness of an initiative that one would think would be encouraged, not thwarted, by the NSW State Government. Our next challenge - let's get the luxury car tax taken off all hybrid vehicles and encourage more people to go green - Because getting from A to B shouldn't cost the earth |
